Sumrell Sugg Partner Trey Ferguson Appointed Carteret County Attorney

Sumrell Sugg, P.A. is pleased to announce that partner Trey Ferguson has been appointed Carteret County Attorney by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners. His appointment is effective October 1, 2026.

Trey will continue his practice with Sumrell Sugg while serving as outside County Attorney to Carteret County. The appointment expands the firm’s longstanding representation of local governments and public agencies throughout eastern North Carolina.

For more than 75 years, Sumrell Sugg has represented counties, municipalities, and public agencies on the legal issues affecting their communities and operations. The firm’s local government practice includes land use and zoning, government litigation, civil rights, governmental liability, employment, public contracting, and day-to-day counsel to elected officials and staff.

Trey’s practice focuses on local government law, with particular experience in land use and zoning and litigation involving public entities. He currently assists with the firm’s representation of Jones, Pamlico, and Lenoir counties and has previously represented Carteret County in matters involving the Board of Elections, Board of Equalization and Review, and Planning Board.
