Sumrell Sugg attorney Derrick Bailey recently participated in oral arguments before the North Carolina Supreme Court. The case, Providence Volunteer Fire Department v. Town of Weddington, involved questions of legislative immunity for elected officials in North Carolina. After Sumrell Sugg was retained in the case, Derrick drafted the brief and then participated in oral arguments before the court. The North Carolina Supreme Court is the highest appellate court in the state and arguments are held before all seven Supreme Court justices. A ruling is expected in the next several weeks.
