Sumrell Sugg, P.A. is pleased to announce that attorney Trey Ferguson has been elected to serve as Alderman for Ward 1 on the New Bern Board of Aldermen in October’s municipal election.
Following the resignation of Alderman Rick Prill, Ferguson was appointed and sworn in early in November to fill the remainder of the unexpired term. On December 9, 2025, he was formally sworn in to begin his elected term after securing the Ward 1 seat in the municipal election.
Ferguson practices with Sumrell Sugg, P.A., where his work focuses on civil litigation and representing local governments as outside general counsel. His practice includes advising municipalities and public entities on land use, planning, governance, and litigation matters—experience that aligns closely with the responsibilities of municipal leadership.

Ferguson has been active in the New Bern community through service on the City’s Board of Adjustment, the Craven Community Foundation, and through his involvement at First Baptist Church of New Bern. He and his wife, Kelsie, live in New Bern with their three daughters.
“Serving Ward 1 is a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously,” Ferguson said. “I’m grateful for the trust of the voters and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively to move New Bern forward.”
Sumrell Sugg congratulates Trey on his election and is proud to support his continued commitment to public service and the New Bern community.
